Ultherapy®: A Great Skin Treatment for Busy People

Updated April 30, 2018

Ultherapy® at our Oregon-based Jewell Plastic Surgery Center has become increasingly popular due to its ability to lift and rejuvenate the skin without the need for surgery, needles, sutures, or downtime. Treatments take from 30 to 90 minutes, and patients can immediately return to their normal daily activities following the appointment, so it’s a great option for busy working people or moms on-the-go.

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is a non-invasive aesthetic treatment that uses a special handpiece to administer ultrasound waves that stimulate collagen production. The increased amount of new collagen can significantly improve the look of the brow, chin, neck, and décolletage. Ultherapy also helps to tighten the skin, smooth away wrinkles, and reduce laxity. Some patients report mild discomfort during treatment, but most people do not need any sort of anesthetic while they undergo the procedure.

How is Ultherapy different from other laser treatments?

Laser therapies use light to treat superficial skin wrinkles or lines. In contrast, Ultherapy uses sound energy, which provides a more prominent lift effect because of its unique properties that can bypass the skin’s surface and go deeper than any other non-invasive cosmetic treatment.

When will I start to see results?

The results of Ultherapy are not immediate but instead develop over the course of several months while your skin produces more collagen. This new collagen will cause your skin to contract and tighten over time. The results may not be as dramatic as a facelift or other surgical options.

How long will these results last?

Results are usually still visible 1 year after treatment; however, your specific results will depend on the condition of your skin, sun exposure, genetics, and other factors.

How many treatments are necessary?

Typically, patients only need 1 treatment, but some people opt for a follow-up session to optimize their results. We may recommend another treatment depending on your individual needs and goals. Additionally, because skin continues to age, future touch-ups can help maintain your youthful glow.

Is there anything I can do to extend Ultherapy results?

At-home skincare will prolong your results. Drink water, wear sunscreen, and moisturize. Try to be consistent with your skincare routine, especially sun protection. UV-rays are your worst enemy when it comes to maintaining healthy-looking skin. I also often recommend other non-surgical treatments to compliment your Ultherapy results. For example, dermal fillers can further reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, while adding subtle volume.
