Slimming Down For Thanksgiving and Beyond

The holidays are almost here, which means you will be around a lot of delicious and fattening foods. Even though holiday treats taste good, they can make you gain weight in a hurry. It is very important to start taking care of your body right now so that you can avoid putting on extra weight. Here are some different ways to slim down for the holidays.

Practice Portion Control

If you want to keep your shapely figure this holiday season, you have to practice portion control. There will be a lot of goodies at holiday parties, but it is not a good idea to eat everything that is in front of you. Eating smaller portions will help you avoid gaining weight during the holiday season. For instance, instead of eating all the desserts, just try one or two.

Exercise Regularly

Exercising during the colder winter months is not always easy, but it is still necessary. It will speed up your metabolism and burn off those extra calories. For example, before you head off to a holiday party, take a 20-minute walk outside. You could also try doing some at home exercises in the middle of your living room such as crunches, pushups, lunges and squats.

Consider Body Contouring

If there is fat on your body that you just can’t seem to get rid of no matter how hard you try, you might want to consider body contouring. This procedure can remove unwanted fat, leaving you with a slimmer and more toned body. In Dr. Jewell’s experience, he has had many patients who have been more than pleased with the results they receive from body contouring. He also recommends it as a great follow up to those who may have lost a lot of weight and have excess skin to get rid of.

Eat Before Holiday Parties

When you have a holiday party to go to in the evening, you should always try to eat before you go. If you make the mistake of not eating anything before a holiday party, you are more likely to overeat later. Eat a small salad or healthy soup for lunch, and don’t forget to hydrate. Drinking plenty of water before the party will give you the feeling of being full and you are less likely to overindulge.

Getting Started on a New Year

While everyone makes New Year resolutions to exercise more, eat less, and watch their weight, January is still a great time to get started on a program of diet, fitness, and wellness. Outdoor winter sports like downhill or cross-country skiing really burn up calories and promote aerobic fitness. Spring will be coming soon enough and everyone wants to look great in a swimsuit when traveling to warmer climates.
