BOTOX® Cosmetic & Dysport®

Women and men from Salem, Bend, Corvallis, and beyond get BOTOX injections at our Eugene, Oregon, practice to minimize forehead wrinkles and reduce fine lines around the mouth and the eyes, such as smoker’s lines and crow’s feet. When injected by a skilled provider, BOTOX creates natural-looking results that help our patients to look as young as they feel.

Benefits of BOTOX

Besides minimizing wrinkles, BOTOX is approved by the FDA to temporarily treat many other conditions. BOTOX injections can ease migraine headaches, reduce urinary incontinence, and treat excessive underarm sweating—a condition called hyperhidrosis.

When used for facial aging, BOTOX and Dysport can improve the appearance of:

  • Crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes
  • Horizontal forehead creases
  • Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Gummy smile
  • Smoker’s lines
  • Bunny lines
  • Downturned corners of the mouth

When injected at the outer corners of the eyebrows, BOTOX or Dysport can provide a subtle, nonsurgical brow lift. Dr. Jewell and Dr. Najafian may also use them to enhance and maintain the results of facial rejuvenation procedures, such as facelift and eyelid surgery.

How Does BOTOX Work?

Knowing how facial wrinkles and lines develop is an important part of understanding how BOTOX and Dysport®—a similar anti-wrinkle injectable treatment—work to reduce signs of aging.

Our faces change expressions hundreds of times a day throughout our lives. Think about how your face changes when you squint, frown or look surprised. Those expressions form lines or creases in your skin and, eventually, these become etched in your skin. These are the “dynamic” wrinkles targeted by BOTOX injections.

Both BOTOX and Dysport are considered muscle relaxers. When we inject them into specific areas they block nerve signals that cause the muscles in the treated areas to contract. Relaxed muscles allow the facial skin to gradually smooth out, softening the wrinkles. Even though both BOTOX and Dysport can be effective, some patients respond better to one than the other. We can help determine which product is best for you.

How Should I Prepare for a BOTOX Treatment?

Our surgeons suggest that patients stop taking aspirin and other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) a week prior to injections. Additionally, taking vitamin E and omega fatty acid supplements can produce more bruising. You can call our office a few weeks prior to your appointment for a complete list of medications and supplements we recommend avoiding before getting BOTOX injections.

What to Expect

The procedure itself only lasts about 15 minutes. Most patients experience very little discomfort during the treatment session and there is no downtime after your appointment. We do recommend postponing vigorous exercise until the day after your treatment. Some bruising or redness may be seen, but these minor side effects resolve on their own.

Dr. Jewell is one of the foremost authorities on cosmetic injectable treatments, having organized a coalition of aesthetic specialists dedicated to ensuring the safety of patients getting injectables. His skill in performing BOTOX and Dysport injections is shown through the results enjoyed by our patients.

Common Questions

How soon will you see BOTOX results?

BOTOX results aren’t seen immediately. It typically takes 4 to 7 days before you see the results emerge and they generally last for 3 to 4 months. Dysport results may appear a bit earlier—within 2 to 3 days of treatment—and may last a bit longer in some patients. Our surgeons’ skill produces natural-looking results that keep our patients looking like themselves—never “frozen” or expressionless.

How much do BOTOX injections cost?

The cost of BOTOX and Dysport depends on several factors, including the number and size of treatment areas. After your personal consultation, we will quote a specific cost to achieve the desired results.

Can I combine BOTOX and dermal fillers?

Absolutely. Dr. Jewell and Dr. Najafian often recommend getting BOTOX and dermal filler injections during the same appointment because combining treatments can provide comprehensive results for the entire face. We can create a treatment plan customized to your needs.
