The Rise of the Subtle Breast Augmentation

A woman rests in bed after a full recovery from a subtle breast augmentation procedure.

For women considering breast augmentation at our Eugene, Oregon, practice, there is a growing interest in achieving subtle results rather than a dramatic transformation. Instead of seeking considerable size increases, women are now focused on slightly enhancing the size and shape of their breasts to feel more feminine and reverse any undesirable effects brought on by pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Breast augmentation is now more customizable than ever, which means women have more options for achieving the right breasts for their unique body type. No matter what your desired results may be, it is always important to work with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon such as myself to ensure your safety and deliver the end results that make you feel more confident.

Bigger Doesn’t Necessarily Mean Better

While breast augmentation continues to be one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, women are now opting for subtle changes to their breast shape and size in pursuit of a more natural-looking appearance.

Most women at our practice are either looking to restore their breasts to the way they were before pregnancy and breastfeeding or to subtly enhance their natural figures.

What’s the Right Size?

When a patient comes in for a breast augmentation consultation, I start with a breast examination and measurements. I talk with the patient about her desired size. Then, with my expertise and the patient’s wishes in mind, we work together to determine the right implant size. Considering the breast measurements and selecting the right implant to fit those measurements makes for an attractive, natural look that should last for many years.

Your Breast Augmentation Options

To create a result uniquely ideal to you, several customizable implant and enhancement options exist.

  • Implant types: Your implant may be filled with either saline, silicone, or form-stable silicone. Saline implants are available for women 18 years or older, or any age when used in breast reconstruction. Silicone implants typically feel more natural and are available to women 22 years or older. Form-stable silicone or “gummy bear” implants are solid, which reduces the risk of rupture, and can be formed into predetermined shapes.
  • Round vs. shaped implants: You may choose between traditional round implants or anatomically shaped implants made of form-stable silicone, which helps create a teardrop shape.
  • Breast lift and augmentation: Combining breast implants with a breast lift is a popular option that utilizes the implant to help restore lost volume and enhance the lift, while the breast lift itself addresses sagging breasts by reducing the amount of excess skin.
