Mark Jewell, M.D. and Michael Edwards, M.D. Publish Guide to Soft Tissue Reinforcements in Aesthetic Surgery Journal

Within the November-December 2016 edition of The Aesthetic Surgery Journal, Drs. Mark Jewell and Michael Edwards have edited a Guide to Soft Tissue Reinforcements. This supplement to the Journal explores the use of alloplastic soft tissue support products that are used by surgeons to reinforce repairs and deficits in tissue coverage.

Part of this supplement covers soft tissue reinforcement products know as acellular dermal matrix (ADM) and synthetic absorbable mesh (Galaflex). The other part written by Drs. Jewell and Edwards covers important considerations of requisite surgeon training to use these products, cost utility, 3-dimensional templates that facilitate use, options for soft tissue support, and relevant clinical examples.

According to Dr. Jewell and Edwards, soft tissue support products provide useful solutions that improve clinical outcomes in both aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. This peer-reviewed scientific publication is available in an unlocked version at the following link: http://asj.oxfordjournals.org/content/36/suppl_2/S1

Dr. Jewell has published other peer-reviewed scientific articles on alloplastic soft tissue support studies in 2-stage breast reconstruction and abdominal wall reconstruction. He also has been a bioskills  instructor in teaching colleagues surgical techniques for successful use of soft tissue support products.
