Neurotoxins
Neurotoxins improve frown lines and facial wrinkling from muscular action such as squinting. Neurotoxins stop the signal from the nerve to the muscles, ultimately resulting in a reduction of muscle activity and temporarily limit the contraction of muscles that cause frown lines. Currently, there are two excellent FDA-approved prescription injectables for neurotoxins available, Botox Cosmetic® www.botoxcosmetic.com and Dysport® www.dysportusa.com There are subtle differences between the two; however, Dysport is dosed according to muscle mass and may suit men better as gentlemen tend to have stronger muscles.
Who will be performing the treatment?
Dr. Jewell will perform the injections or one of his trained nurse injectors for neurotoxins that work under his direction will do the injection, once a treatment plan has been developed.
What can I expect at the treatment consultation?
Discuss your expectations and whether you have any health conditions or allergies that could interfere with your treatment. Discuss the risks and benefits of neurotoxins to determine if this is right for you. Men have more muscle mass compared to women; they often need a greater dose of medicine to get long lasting results. Ask Dr. Jewell which neurotoxin will work best for you.
How long will the treatment be?
The procedure itself takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Expect to be in the office for approximately 30 minutes.
What about after the treatment?
There is little to no down time so you can return to your normal activities. We do suggest no vigorous exercise the first couple hours after the procedure. We suggest that you do not wear a hat after injections, and it is a good idea to bring a good pair of UV sunglasses. In extremely rare instances, it has been reported that people have problems swallowing, speaking or breathing. Call the office immediately if such things occur.
