About Dr. Jewell
Aesthetic plastic surgeon Mark L. Jewell, MD, served as 2005-06 President of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the leading professional organization of board-certified plastic surgeons. Practicing in Eugene, Oregon, he is currently the United States National Secretary for the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He also served as a Governor for the National Endowment for Plastic Surgery and as a member of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Jewell is a former member of the Board of Directors for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and vice president of the America Society Education and Research Foundation (ASERF).
In 2003, ASAPS awarded Dr. Jewell the Tiffany Award for best scientific presentation. He held the prestigious Joyce Kaye Lectureship from 1998 to 2004 and has taught numerous scientific courses and authored multiple scientific journal articles and book chapters as well as the ASPS Patient Consultation Resource Guide for informed-consent. He served as the co-chair of the Breast Implant Task Force for plastic surgery that was successful in returning silicone gel breast implants to the marketplace and the development of the website for patients www.breastimplantsafety.org
Among plastic surgeons in Eugene, Salem, and Bend, Oregon, across the U.S. and around the world, Dr. Jewell is a recognized leader in plastic surgery with his development of the Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety, a consortium of approximately 40,000 physicians from the major specialties (plastic surgery, dermatology, facial plastic surgery, and oculoplastic surgery) who are trained in cosmetic medicine and injectables. He published the Safety With Injectables Workbook, a process-oriented guide for injectables that is used by the Coalition members.

Dr. Jewell has developed numerous innovations in how plastic surgery is practiced today in areas of face, breast, and body contouring surgery in addition to tissue fillers and neurotoxin research. He is a key opinion leader and clinical researcher in how new products and devices are being brought to the market in order to improve patient outcomes and safety. Dr. Jewell’s contributions to aesthetic surgery have been recognized by his colleagues who awarded him the Tiffany Award for best scientific paper that was given by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Mark Jewell has taught other plastic surgeons during annual meetings and symposia for many years. He also is involved with the education of young plastic surgeons as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at Oregon Health Science University and as a Traveling Professor of Plastic Surgery through the Aesthetic Society. Dr. Jewell has published over 60 peer-reviewed scientific papers, books, and book chapters. He is a respected educator who has lectured and performed surgery to teach other plastic surgeons within the US and Europe, South America, Asia, the Mid-East, and Australia.
